I would have never guessed that almost at every turn in Dublin, one can find a healthy salad bar, a juice shop or local organic coffee. It doesn’t feel like you need to go looking for one – which lead me to believe that Dubliners have a very healthy approach to diet. On my short visit, I tried two of these amazing places.
Alchemy Juice Co
On Grafton Street, right in the heart of Dublin where large stores are packed together, there is one which stood out. Not because of the brands on sale, but because, on the first floor they have an open space juice and salad bar, making it easy to just pop by after all the shopping. The place is minimalist and airy – their window seats allow you to take a step back and relax while watching the crazy, busy rush hours unfold at your feet.
They offer a selection of salad boxes, healthy sweet bites and fresh, raw juices. I went for their ‘OMG’ smoothie – which does justice to its name. I’ve been experimenting with home-made smoothies lately, so I’ve tried quite a few combinations, but this one is the best I ever had and impossible for me to replicate. Made out of banana, dates, almond milk, almond butter, vanilla extract, cinnamon and Himalayan pink salt – it’s safe to say that I will never have all these ingredients just sitting around the kitchen. The spirulina ball was a bit eccentric for me and it took a couple of bites for my palette to get used to the taste.
When in Dublin, I’ll always go back for the ‘OMG’ smoothie (better than Guinness)!
Sprout & Co
Still in the city center, on Dawson Street (very close to Trinity college), there’s this salad bar which tempted me in with the smell. Surprising, since this is in fact a salad bar so I wasn’t expecting such a good scent. They promote themselves as offering healthy, seasonal and local treats.
It was breakfast time so I just had the chia seed porridge with coconut milk and fruit toppings.
They also serve good coffee and if you choose to eat in, you will be happy to know that they have some pretty groovy music too.
