Suvlaki (Soho) – by Daniela

Greece is the first foreign country I visited – so maybe I’m a bit biased, because I was lucky enough to be treated to home-made authentic souvlakis for the first time by a very talented cook. Yaam, only the memory of it makes me crave some more! That’s why, when I read about a new Greek skewer restaurant opening in Soho, I put it immediately on my to-go list.

My first thought was that Google maps took me to the wrong address, since looking from the outside the place looked more like a take-away only kitchen with barely enough room for eating in. Still, I was too tempted by the promise of delicious succulent skewers so I ignored the cramped space and the fact that there were no other customers and went in. Great decision! I was impressed by the authenticity of it all; from the Greek character writing on the walls to the Greek beer they were serving. The kitchen is in the same open space so it adds to the craving. Service was surprisingly quick even though we went for a little bit of everything in the menu (which is not difficult to do since you can mix up any three skewers and mini-wraps).  The portions are not at all small so keep that in mind before doing the same thing. By the time I finished, the place had become full and although the tables are too close together for my liking, I must admit that it builds up a special tavern atmosphere.

They also do take-away, which comes in handy!
